The GEO partnership in the area of fellowship training with the House Ear Clinic has been in place since 2005. The program was initiated by Drs. De La Cruz and Brackman, both of whom have interests in supporting education in Otology in the global arena. Dr. De La Cruz prior to his death spent endless hours visiting both Central and South America, sharing knowledge with his colleagues. Dr. Brackman prior to joining the HEI spent time with his wife in Africa.
The fellowship opportunities created at HEI, allow two fellow in their second year, the opportunity to participate in teaching in developing countries and at the same time enhancing their surgical skills in the area of chronic ear disease and conductive hearing loss.
Presently, the GEO - HEI fellowship partnership is coordinated and directed by Dr. Eric Wilkinson, who with his vast experience internationally, advises the fellows in the opportunities overseas.
